Disability Awareness and Information Day being held 14/11/08

27th Oct 2008

Bro Ddyfi Communities First are to hold a ‘Disability Awareness and Information Day’ at Bro Dyfi Leisure Centre, Machynlleth on Friday 14th November.

This will be a drop-in event between 11.30am and 3.00pm, with FREE refreshments, low energy light bulbs, PowerDown plugs, a prize raffle and much more.

Cyril Breeze Evans, the Bro Ddyfi Communities First Co-ordinator said “The intention of this free event is to provide useful information and advice not only for local people who are suffering from a physical or sensory disability themselves, but also for their families and friends”.

The Bro Ddyfi Communities First Partnership recognises the need to address all forms of social exclusion, including that caused through disability, and have decided to hold this event as one important way of addressing this.

There will be exhibition stalls by various local groups and organisations, Disability Powys, RNIB Cymru, RNID Cymru, and the Local Health Board, as well as discussion groups/workshops on varied relevant topics including ‘Barriers to employment, education, services, and leisure activities for disabled people in rural areas’.

Cyril went on to say “The partnership hope that raising awareness of the many Support and Advice Services available at a local, regional and national level, will lead to an increase in use of these services by local disabled people and their families, and that this in turn will help to both maintain and indeed improve upon their quality of life”.

Should any local group who provide a service for people who are suffering from a physical or sensory disability have an interest in having an exhibition stall to promote their work at this event, then please do contact the Bro Ddyfi Communities First Office

For more information including times and topics of the discussion groups/workshops, please contact the Bro Ddyfi Communities First Office on 01654 700315 or e-mail commfirst.broddyfi@powys.gov.uk
