The Bro Dyfi Community Land Trust (and its plans for the old Forestry Commission site at Ceinws Camp), has been invited to be a part of the Cambrian Mountains Project - being backed by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales - which is looking to deliver holistic solutions to the many challenges facing upland rural communities across Mid and SW Wales. Positive responses to the people of Ceinws's original vision for the future of the site have been received from the Powys County Council planning and highways departments. "This is very encouraging. Everyone we have talked to wants to see affordable homes, workspace and community facilities provided on this site, which was such a busy and key part of the Ceinws community until 15 years ago", says Jonathan Brown, Director of Land for People, who is assisting with plans for the community-led development of the site.
"After a couple of years where not much has been seen to be happening, this is all now changing. We want to help ensure that the re-use of the site not only meets what the community wants" continued Brown, "but one which can also help to deliver the Welsh Assembly Government's vision for energy efficient, low-carbon development, combining affordable homes, workspace and eco-tourism. We think that this should include a new play area and community meeting place". Later this Spring the Bro Dyfi Community Land Trust will be publicly launched, which will give local people and organisations the opportunity to become member shareholders in the Trust and to contribute to the work at Ceinws and other future projects elsewhere in the Dyfi valley.
