Welsh Housing Quality Standard

The WHQS is a huge investment in housing taking place in Wales over the next few years with the aim of bringing social housing stock up to a new 21st century standard. The total investment is estimated at £3 billion pounds from 2005-2012.

Further information including the ‘More than bricks and mortar’ report, ‘Surviving Transfer’ guide, and the ‘WHQS Plus’ report, can be accessed at: www.whq.org.uk/i2i/about_resources.php

There is a significant opportunity for local builders, engineers and other trades people and companies to provide services for the WHQS investment.

If you are interested in construction skills and training a good place to start is the Construction Industry Training Board – www.citb-constructionskills.co.uk

If you are a builder, engineer, trade person or company and wish to provide services to Powys County Council then you can apply to be included on the list of approved contractors. Contact the council – www.powys.gov.uk
