Adult Learners Week took part from 17th to 22nd May 2010. Organisations and training providers worked in Partnership to put on events and tasters over the week across the county.
In total 908 people attended these events, the majority were aged between 25 and 64 with only 29 people being unemployed.
In Welshpool there were a variety of taster sessions held including; Welsh, Digital Storytelling, Financial Capability and budgeting, Poster design, Healthy living, Aromatherapy and others.
On Saturday 22nd May we worked with partners to host the Welshpool Learning Festival and Fun, held at Oldford Infants School. There were FREE tasters in; Basic Plumbing, Poster Design, Cooking on a budget, Felt making, Writing through the ages, Flower Arranging, Sugar Craft, Nail Art and Watercolour Painting. A free creche was provided.
Around 36 people took part in this event, six expressed an interest in future courses and three people have recently completed a Flower Arranging course and acheived an OCN accreditation.
The most popular courses recorded across Powys were the alternative therapies, nail art, first aid and felt making! Feedback from partners and the public was that the events were a great opportunity to showcase what courses were on offer locally and to give people the chance to try things they wouldnt normally get involved in. The only negative feedback was that people felt it was held at the wrong time of year considering the courses may not have started until September and people may have lost interest waiting until then to get going.
Overall people found it a very usefula dn enjoyable event.
Local partners included: Oldford Communities First, Coleg Powys, Coleg Harlech WEA, Niace, Citizens Advice Bureau, and many more.
