About Oldford Online
What does Oldford Online do?
- Raises awareness of the benefits of new technology in all sectors the community
- Provides help, support and informal training to access and use technology
- Delivers technology related projects to local groups, including digital storytelling and high impact DVD presentations
- Supports the capacity building aims of Oldford Communities First by:
- enabling individuals and groups to gain new skills and ideas
- building self-confidence
- establishing greater involvement in the community
Where and when can I access Oldford Online?
- Oldford Online has five desktop computers based in the Clywd Alyn Community Room on the estate
- There are also eight laptops, based in Emerald House at Oldford Infants School
- These facilities can be used during the following organised sessions:
- Open Access – for casual use of the computers with help and support available
- Homework Club – for 8 to 18 year olds to use the computers to do their homework
- Informal training – training in a variety of different aspects of technology. More details can be found in the Training Courses section
- Special projects – working with community groups, we use the technology on projects such as digital storytelling or promotional DVDs. For more information, see the Projects section.

How is Oldford Online funded?
Oldford Online is funded through the Communities @One project. The aim of Communities @One is to help people in Communities First areas get access to new technologies so they can fulfil their social, economic and cultural potential.
Communities @One is jointly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Welsh European Funding Office through the European Union 1 & 2 programme. It is administered by the Wales Co-operative Centre.
Oldford Online has:
- Over 60 active members
- Helped a variety of people learn about digital technology through informal training
- Set up a twice weekly Homework Club for 20+ children
- Helped a group of young people to produce a DVD to contribute to the Communities First action plan for Oldford
- Helped individuals access information to plan a route back into the workplace
- Enabled community members to explore the Internet during Open Access sessions
Oldford Online will:
- Continue to grow its membership
- Widen the scope of the informal training on offer
- Remain committed to young people through the Homework Club and future projects
- Work with local groups to capture experiences and memories through digital storytelling
- Continue to encourage community members to explore the world around them through digital technology
