Click here for more information and advice if you are being bullied at school.

Are you being bullied?

If you would rather hide at home and not go to school because you are being bullied, then its time to take action and get help!

What is bullying?

You can be bullied in lots of different ways:

  • Name calling
  • Taking things away from you
  • Punching, scrathing, hair pulling
  • Making things up to get you in trouble
  • Sending you nasty texts
  • Spreading nasty rumours about you.

Why do bullies do it?

There are always reasons why they are like this. They may just be jealous of you because you get better grades than them and they may not like the way they look so they disguise that by bullying you which gives them confidence. They may just want to show off to their mates and try and look tough, but usually its just an act. Most bullies do not want their victim to confront them and they usually back down if you do. Some bullies have problems at home where their parents or family pick on them or shout at each other and they think it is normal to behave like this.

Don't be scared of bullies, they are human, just like you.

How can you stop bullying?

It is very hard to stop someone from bullying you because they have knocked your confidence and you feel very low, so telling someone else may seem too embarrassing. Tell a teacher, your parents, a friend or the school nurse. The sooner you do this the better.

Other ways you can stay safe from bullying is by staying in busy areas of the school at break and lunch times, if they still hurt or taunt you at least you have witnesses. It might feel like you are the only one being bullied but sadly it happens a lot in many schools and teachers are very aware and they want to stop it just as much as you do, so telling them you are being bullied will help them to put a stop to it.

Have a look at some of these websites which can tell you more about bullying and how to stop it.

Bullying UK is a great site that gives you information on bullying, it can also be useful to your parents, if they know you are being bullied.

The BBC has a great page called Onion Street where you can read about bullying and chat online about it.

Kidscape is a website which tackles bullying and abuse of children.
