This organisation is a community based regeneration network.  They recently produced a report entitled ‘Rural Social Exclusion & Development Trusts – how members of the DTA address rural disadvantage.’ This was produced from analysis of the 2004 DTA membership. My abstract from this is:

  • Providing an inclusive environment is important
  • Services provided by Rural DT’s 2004: - 4 areas stand out -
    • Property asset management
    • Supporting the environment (build & natural)
    • Education & training
    • Community Development
  • There are issues of growing population in rural areas from older incomers but out-migration of young adults.
  • Buildings run by the community often a key to developing a strategy for sustainable development
  • Strong connection to community and strong partnership working – hurdles barriers to delivery of cohesive services
  • Through providing services to all groups DTs have a wide community base
  • DTs can show how things can be done
  • Good to have a business like approach to service delivery as this aids sustainability.

Comments from individual DTs

  • Creating a knowledge based economy – focused on heritage, culture and environment (Norfolk – Wayland PDT)
  • Bringing key agencies & organisations together to highlight needs and find way forward (Langport Area DT)
  • Having a community centre resource for arts, education, leisure, café etc is key (Cornwall)
